What Causes Voice Change In A Child After Viral Fever?
Question: My daughter is 2 year old. She just recovered from the viral fever followed by rash. But her voice is not so clear as before. what could be the reason. Is she still suffereing from the Viral infection.
Brief Answer:
Could be laryngitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
The voice change could be due to infection of vocal cord ( laryngitis ) which can happen in upper respiratory viral infection.
Dont worry , you mentioned the fever is gone.
So the infection is also going away.
The reason for the hoarse voice could be swelling of vocal cord as a result of the infection. This swelling will settle in a few days time.
There is no need for any other medicines .
I usually suggest, gargling with hot water and salt as well as warm steam inhalation which should help improve faster.
Wishing your daughter speedy recovery

Thanks Doctor.
This is the second time she got the viral fever in a month span gap.
The first time : She got fever and rash was more and had more cough and cold. No throat change.
We did blood test for dengu and it was negative.
THe secone time : She got fever and rash was less and little bit voice change but very mild cold and cough.
They are related ? infection still continues ..Do i need to worry about throat infection or differernt Viral just happened twice.

Brief Answer:
If in doubt consult your doctor/ENT
Detailed Answer:
I think both may not be related.
This may be another new infection.
If the infection continues, her vocal cords need to be examined by ENT.
Antibiotics may be needed if fever persists or she is not getting better.
Amoxicillin would be my first choice
