What Causes Vomiting And Diarrhea Accompanied With Rash On Chest Area?

Question: About 3 weeks ago I experience 2days of vomiting and diarrhea. The following morning I woke up with a rash across my chest and shoulder area. The next day it had spread to my stomach and thighs. The following day it was on every part of my body except below my knees and below my elbows. It didn't itch at first. Then it began to itch. I went to my PCP who prescribed a Steriod pack. I took the medication. Now 3 weeks later, the rash is continuing to spread, to my face area and itching like crazy. What should I do now? I am not in any pain. I have been treated for IBS in the past. In 2011 I had shingles. Other family members experienced the vomiting and diarehha a few days after me, but no one else got a rash. Help!

Discuss with dermatologist to rule out pytiriasis rosea&further treatment..

Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

1. Can you please provide a photo of the rash you are having on your skin?

2. From what you are prescribing, the vomiting and diarrhea which has been followed by rash are signs of possible viral infection.

However, pytiriasis rosea is another diagnosis to rule out through skin biopsy. It is not a contagious disease but will be resolved within a couple of months.

I advise to consult with dermatologist and discuss about UV treatment.
