What Causes Vomiting And Nausea Post A Myomectomy?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Sep 2017
Question: I have had open myomectomy 4 days ago, and i have been vomiting until today and feeling nauseous. My doctor says this is not normal, and it could be due to high liver enzymes. Therefore wanting me to go for a upper abdomen scan and take a blood test to check the liver.
I wanted your opinion whether it is not normal for nausea to continue 4-5 days after surgery and if there could be anything else which can trigger the nausea post op?
I have been diagnosed with IBS previously, but not sure whether this can cause the nausea and sickness?

Brief Answer:
First get the blood tests done, if paralytic leis and IBS are ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
Nausea and vomiting continuing for 4-5 days after surgery is not normal. It could be due to your intestines not working well ( paralytic ileus). If you have paralytic ileus, then your abdomen will be distended and you would not have passed motions. It could also be due to IBS.
If these two conditions are ruled out, then you need to do liver and kidney function tests( blood tests). There is no need for upper abdominal scan right now. First get the blood tests done.
I hope this is helpful. If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Ramadevi Wani
