What Causes Vomiting, Diarrhea, Foul Smelling Belches And Extreme Dehydration?

hold off solids, fluid replacement, probiotics, pepto bismol
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The most common cause of these symptoms is an infection involving the stomach and rest of the GI tract.
Infections can be viral or bacterial though viral infections are more common. Typically infections last less than a week but rarely can extend to 2 weeks, rarely longer.
Treatment involves-(1) avoiding the use of solid food till there is a 4 hour window with no symptoms.
If solids are used before the intestine and stomach are ready, it would only aggravate the symptoms.
When 4 hours pass with no symptoms then a small amount of dry solid food is started eg biscuit, toast, plain rice etc
(2)Fluids are very important to replace what is loss. It would be best to use oral hydration products which would give back both fluids and electrolytes. They would be available at your local pharmacy
(3)probiotics help to restore the normal flora of the gut. Can be used on their own or with yogurts that have probiotics
(4)meds such as peptobismol and pepcid (to help with the air), would also be helpful as well
If you feel very unwell and believe that you are very dehydrated, then you need to be assessed by your doctor as soon as possible. IV fluids may be needed.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
