What Causes Vomiting Followed By Diarrhea?
Question: My 3 year old started vomiting last Wednesday night/ thursday morning, I took him in to the doctor Thursday and he said he thought it was a stomach virus. He stopped vomiting Thursday around noon time. He was drinking plenty of liquids but he didn't really start eating til Saturday late/ and Sunday. He since has been eating, but very picky. My concern is Sunday he started diaherrea. He did it twice Sunday, and once on Monday, Tuesday, and now today. It seems like it is thickening up and not as watery. Does not seem to have any blood present in it, it is green in color though. Do you think this could have been food posioning? Do you think I need to put a call in to his doctor and take him back? Or do you think it's normal and he will be ok?

It seems your kid is having viral diarrhoea. Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.
I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron as prescribed by your paediatrician.

Ok thanks, he has not ran any fever either and i figured if it was something too bad he would be running some degree of fever. But he has been acting fine and normal.
