What Causes Watery Diarrhea While On Celexa, Klonopin, Depakote, Namenda And Rivastigmine?

Question: My husband is taking many medications and is having very lose stools and soiling his clothing. He will not tell his doctor. There is no bleeding, dark tarry stools or pain so I am not overly concerned, but it is yucky. Can I suggest to him that he start taking some peptol bismal once a day?

Hello
Thanks for the query
Very loose stools could mean that it is secretory diarrhea because of some of the medication he is on. It is very important for me to know the following things
1. I would like to know the medications he is on. You could take a picture of the prescription and attach it
2. how long has be had this for ?
3. does he have pain abdomen as well? where is the pain in the abdominal region
I am awaiting your reply
Regards

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX Madhyastha;
Here is the information you requested, and my husband has no pains.
Celexa,20mg;Klonopin,0.25mg;depakote er,1000 mg;namenda 5mg; (but problem started before this was added.) and rivastiigmine, 3mg twice a day. I am not sure, but problem may have started when rivastigmine was added.
XXXX
Can he try some kayopectate or pepto bismal?

Brief Answer:
Might not be related to rivastigmine
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back. I am sorry for the short delay in my reply. I just got back from the hospital.
Rivastigmine typically causes black and tarry stools. It does not cause watery diarrhea.
I suggest you to try Kaopectate, it might bring down the diarrhea. However along with that I also suggest probiotics like Sporolac three times a day, it will replenish the gut with good type of micro organisms.
I also recommend to avoid milk, milk products and caffeine until he is better
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
