Brief Answer:
Exclusive breast feeding is the solution

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic.

Congratulations on having a baby. It seems that the child is receiving top feeds. Let me first emphasize on the fact that breast milk is the best possible food for a baby and there can be no alternatives for the same. Formula milks are cow milk based and hence difficult to digest for the baby. So stool consistency can be watery or seedy yellow as you are describing. Moreover it may also give rise to abdominal colic due to the difficulty in digestion. This is making the child cry.

As of now giving Decolic Infant Drops 6 drops in when the child is crying incessantly, will provide relief. Also be sure to burp the child after each feed by holding upright for about 20 minutes following each feed. If you can switch back to breast feeding, it is the best solution that can be offered.

Thanks for replying. The baby is getting mother's milk only. We have given him 4 drops of colimex, 1 hour back. He still seems restless. We tried holding him upright. He burped and passed gas. Is he having diarrhoea.? Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Continue breast feeding on demand, this may not be diarrhea, make sure you are burping the baby

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. It is good to hear that the child is exclusively breast fed. I do not think that the baby has diarrhea. But even if the child has diarrhea, all you need to do is to give is breast milk in increased amount. Breast milk is considered to be superior to Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) in replenishing the salt and water lost due to diarrhea in such children. The adequacy of the feeds would be demonstrated by the number of times urine is passed. If the baby is passing urine more than 6-8 times over a period of 24 hours, there is nothing to worry.

Colimex is practically the same as Decolic drops that I mentioned. You can give it as and when you feel it to be required.

It is good to hear that you are burping the child properly. It is essential. Even if you do not hear the burping sound, you need not worry.

Wishing you and your family health.

Regards
