What Causes Weight Gain While On Hydrocortisone?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Dec 2015
Question: Hi -

I currently take 20mg of Hydrocort for adrenal fatigue. I had some blood work done and it showed I was low on Vitamin C, D and Zinc. I also have a hard time processing sugar. My thyroid was 2.07. I feel weak and tired and moody most of the time. Should I take a thyroid pill? I was taking 35 mg of the Hyrdrocort, but I was shakey and putting on weight. I have gained 20 lbs. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
normal thyroid

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have been feeling tired and moody lately. You feel it maybe associated with low thyroid function but your TSH is 2.07. The TSH is normal and therefore you do not require any thyroid replacement therapy. The most common reason for feeling tired and moody is a sleep problem. You may have sleep apnea or other sleep disturbance that is making you feel unrested. Another possibility is depression. If you feel tired lack of energy, depressed or lack motivation you could have depression.

The best thing for you to do is see your medical provider and be open and honest with your symptoms. The workup and diagnostic testing for fatigue is huge and needs hands on care to find the exact cause of your symptoms.
