What Causes Weight Gain While On Steroids?
My wifes chemo and radium treatment to remove a tumour half way down my oesophagus has given very good results and her next appointment is in six months time.
She has been off steroids for four weeks, I would be extremely appreciative if you could enlighten us on the following:
1. During the steroid medication she put on weight approx. 6 kgs and her face became puffed up, this we were told would happen. The good news is she can eat all types of food now but not over eating and her weight appears to be not reducing same with her puffed face.
2. My wife lost all her hair but now it has grown again remarkably well even more dense/thicker than before.
She is now wondering is there an hair specialist who she could visit for the possibility of restyling and colouring it.
We are both delighted with the medical care she has receive and that she is feeling so well but we would be also very thankful if these two points we could be helped with.
Many, many thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so happy to hear about your spectacular results with this cancer treatment.
1. Weight gain is a recognized side effect of steroids. She will slowly loss the weight with time. It can take several months. Please exercise patience and all will slowly return to normal.
2.. The stylist needs no special information. The hair can be treated just like every other hair. It feel off because of the drugs and not because of any other thing which now requires special treatment. Whatever she wants to do with the hair is fine and very safe.
I hope this helps. I wish you both well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
