What Causes Weight Gain With Stiffness In The Hand When Diagnosed With Hypothyroidism?

With severe weight gain in last 6months (4 kgs from 59 to 64 kgs) with gaining inches around waist line + this stiffness in fingers & wrist joint - do they all point to hypothyroidism or something more ?
Should I go back to 75mcg Thyronorm or resume with more moderate use of 50mcg or do you advice something else? Thanks!
You need to increase the dose of Thyronorm.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'am, Hi & Good morning.
Based on the history given and the results of the thyroid function tests done on 21st Feb., 24th XXXXXXX & 14th Oct.this year, I am of the opinion that you need to increase the dose of Thyronorm to 75 mcg/day after consulting your treating physician.
The symptoms of severe weight gain with swollen fingers and hand since last six months are suggestive of hypothyroidism.
Kindly repeat the thyroid function tests after 6 weeks to check the efficacy of the Thyronorm by keeping the TSH levels in the range of 0.4 to 4 µIU/mL.
Hope I could answer your query, however if you have any clarifications, please feel free to send your query.
Regards....

Going by my current TSH & FT4 readings, do you think 75mcg is more apt or a slightly milder 62.5mcg ? if it's 75mcg, what symptoms to look for to figure if/when i am probably taking more than required dosage...a few weeks down the line?
Idea is just to be more aware of the signs of over or under dosage. Thank You!
The dose needs to be adjusted..
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'am, Hi & Good afternoon.
Thanks for your reply. Note its contents.
Since you noticed mild palpitation and recurrent sleepiness at the dose of 75 mcg/day a couple of months ago, so it is better to start with a dose of 62.5 mcg/day and monitor its response after 4- 6 weeks by doing thyroid function tests.
The TSH should be in the range of 0.4 to 0.4 4 µIU/mL.
If you develop the features suggestive of under dosage or over dosage (mentioned below), the dose can be increased or decreased respectively after consulting your treating physician.
2. Symptoms of over dosage: increased pulse and BP, palpitations, flushing, excessive sweating, tremors, flushing, diarrhea or menstrual irregularities.
3. Symptoms of under dosage: constipation, chance of voice, weakness, slow pulse, weight gain, etc.
Hope I could answer your query.
Best wishes.
