What Causes Weight Loss Post Colectomy?
I have a question about a girl that I met once for a date. She told me about her medical condition and it I'm looking for advice on how her condition could impact any future relationship.
She has colitis and had a total colectomy in XXXXXXX She said how she dropped a lot of weight. She had another surgery so she does not need a ostomy bag. She said she has scars.
I'm concerned about what type of life she is going to lead in the future and how it will impact me? My questions are as follows? Sorry but I had no one else to ask.
1. Can she still have kids?
2. What type of scars / physical deformities does she have?
3. Will it impact sex life?
4. Will she have a shorter life expectancy and will she be sick all of the time?
5. Will she be able to put back on weight?

Hi,
I have gone through the medical history of your friend carefully and am sorry about her actual health condition.
The very first thing I need to know why she had a total colectomy in June? The diagnosis of the surgery is needed to give final conclusions:
1. The chances for pregnancy are the same as for other women, however, it is still too early to give the final opinion as she needs time to recover.
2. She is having adherences due to surgeries she did. It is a connective tissue forming after adherences.
3. Sexual life is not compromised. She will be better now after surgery, however, she should be fully recovered.
4. If the first diagnosis was ulcerative colitis, there will be a longer life expectancy now and she will be better than earlier.
5. Yes, she will be able to put back on weight after surgery.
All the best!

what will the scars look like? Will her stomach look deformed?
Usually, stomach is not deformed after surgery....

Hi,
Thank you for providing the requested data.
Actually, ulcerative colitis was my first suspicion that you already confirmed.
If this is her case, then, surgery has resolved her problems.
With regard to scar tissue, the adherences I referred to was related to organs inside her abdomen and not to external apparance.
Usually , no scar tissue is detected externally due to fine job applied.
All the best!
