What Causes Wheezing While On Amoxicillin And Mucinex?

You should not have fever 48h after you have started the antibiotic.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your health question.
I read carefully your question.
The lungs noises you hear are from the moving of secretions in the upper airways, not the ones that pneumonia has. Crackling can not be heard by ear, just with stethoscope. Anyway, even if you had crackles before you started the antibiotic, it does not clear up that fast enough.
So, in other words, to tell that the antibiotic is working, would be if you are feeling better, have not fever or shortness of breath. If you still are having fever, means that either the infection is viral and it will be self limited, or you are resistant from Amoxicillin and will need to switch to another antibiotic like Azithromycin. I repeat, this is the case when you continue to have fever after 48 hours of starting with antibiotic.
Otherwise, do not need to worry. The cough will be there for 1-2 weeks. Continue the course of amoxicillin for up to seven days, and continue using the cough medicines to help you with it.
Hope this is helpful.

Is there anything else for the cough? Or should I use the cheratussin throughout the day in place of Tessalon pearls?
Being a person who hardly ever gets sick this has been horrible!
Cheratussin-not good to be used more then once/day when have secretions
Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,
Thank you for your follow-up question.
I'm sorry to hear that this infection is giving you a hard time.
If I was your caring doctor I would advice you to drink plenty of water during the day, as it is most important to keep you well hydrated. You are losing fluids by the secretions, so you will need more fluids then usual. Dehydration causes fatigue, so make it a priority.
Also, I would say continue with Vicks vapor, use Ibuprofen or tylonol as needed for pains or fever as needed.
Cheratussin has components that are good to suppress cough, but in this moment you don't need to suppress it...you need those secretions and dead cells from the lungs airways to clear up. For this reason, I would say to use it only at bedtime.
Instead, if you see that Tessalon is not helping you, you can try a mucolitic, which my patients have preferred a lot and been of help for them- Acetylcisteine. Use 200mg 3 times/day, or 600mg once/day.
I hope this information is helpful.
Hope you get better fast.
Regards,
