What Causes White Mucus In Stool With Abdominal Pain?

On some stools previously i had white mucus
Also noticed a change in bowel movement , first part of the stool is normal sized and formed followed by thin soft stool
Having abdominal pain
Had a blood test and everything was in normal range, no signs of infection
I noticed 1 worm in my stool 6 weeks ago and took the Mebendazole and haven't noticed any others.
That was the only one i have ever seen
All of this has started since end of October, i had severe bloating and pain, the bloating went for a week and hasn't come back
So scared i have bowel cancer :(
Booked in for a sigmoidoscopy but its a little while off
Get colonoscopy instead of sigmoidoscopy
Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.
Some blood and altered bowel for last few months containing soft and formed stool with mucus and abdominal pain may be due Inflammatory bowel disease or some chronic infection of colon
This can be confirmed with endoscopic examination of colon. It may or may not be diagnosed with sigmoidoscopy which examine only some part of colon.
In my opinion whole examination of colon is must which is known as colonoscopy.
In case any lesion is found biopsy will be taken from there and will be sent for histopathological examination to confirm diagnosis.
So discuss with your doctor regarding this. There is nothing to worry for the procedure as they can be done under sedation also
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health

What are the chances of this being colon cancer?
I had a blood test and was all in normal range, so surely it cant be an infection or inflammatory bowel disorders because there were not any signs of infection or inflammation in the blood?
The reason they are opting for the sigmoidoscopy is cuz the pain is mainly in that area i think
Many thanks
more than 90% colon cancer occur at age more than 50yrs
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and sorry for delay
In my opinion it appears to be inflammatory bowel disease inspite all blood tests are normal.
Now coming to your question. Usually more than 90% of the colon cancer do occur after the age of 50yrs. However at your age it may occur at your age if predisposing factor and high risk are there like family history of colon cancer at youger age, some familial history of inherited disorder, personal history of inflammatory bowel disease or cancer in some other part of the body. In such cases also the risk is 5% only.
I hope I have answered your query. Wish you a good health

I thought with inflammatory bowel you would get diareah ?
I don't ever get that i just get formed normal-ish stool to start , quickly followed by a very thin and soft stool ?
As far as i am aware i don't have any family history of any cancers , my gran had precancerous polyps in her uterus when she was around 55 i think
nice to learn that you dont have any predisposing factor
Detailed Answer:
Nice to hear that you dont have any predisposing factor. Then the risk however is not defined but in my opinion it will be less than 1 %.
Best of luck and wish you a good health
