What Causes White Or Yellowish Vaginal Discharge And Itching?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I am having white/yellowish kind of cottage cheesy vaginal discharge for for 2 months now and some itching. It started when I had sexual intercourse with a new guy. I ignored it for a while and it worsens specially when I drink alcohol. I know it is bad to self prescribe but I tried ciproflocaxin for 7 days which is an antibiotic i was taking for UTI before and it went away for a while but came back specially when I am drinking alcohol. So now I am noticing the more I drink, the more I get this weird dicharges. I have researched and thought maybe this is yeast infection and thought of taking diflucan but i want to be sure this time. I want it to stop soon because it is really uncomfortable. Even sex is uncomfortable so I stopped for a while too.

Brief Answer:
It is a yeast infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern and I will try to help you.

Yes,these two signs (cottage vaginal discharge with itching) are for yeast infection.

The reason that you are having yeast infection are two:
1.use of antibiotics
2.and use of alcohol.
Both of them cause compromised immune system

To treat it, you can start with vaginal Canesten Cream, one dose application daily for 5 to 7 days adding two pills diflucan 150 mg,one pill in one day and the another after 6 days. Please note that Diflucan is a prescription pill and you have to take it under your doctor's prescription.

Add in your diet more yogurt and water, stop using alcohol.

All the best

Noted :)

1. Does that mean i should never drink alcohol again? Or just while i am having this treatment?

2. Do you think this came from the guy I was having sex with? Because before I was really healthy and I haven't experienced this ever, and I am a drinker (not alcoholic, but i love beer)

3. Does this mean no sex, too? When can I drink or have sex again? Just want to make sure. :)

Also I am taking birth control pills right now. If that detail is important :)

Brief Answer:
Avoid alcohol, sexual contact will under treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again!
I will try to give you some explanations .

1. In my opinion, if I were your doctor, I will advice you to stop having alcohol, especially since symptoms can aggravate.

2. Yeast infection isn't sexually transmitted infection, but this infection can get transmitted, if he has symptoms due to yeast infection.

3. It is better to avoid any sexual contact while you are under treatment.

4. Birth control pill can predispose to yeast infection.

Feel free to discus all the issue that you have.

Ok to what I have understood, I will avoid alcohol and sexual contact WHILE im on treatment, and maybe after i could drink some little by little?

Can I finish the last maybe 6 birth control pills or do you advice to stop them? I am afraid when i stop it i might get pregnant.

Any food i should avoid too?

That would be all :)

Brief Answer:
Don't stop birth control.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again!

Yes, avoid alcohol and sexual intercourse while under treatment.

In my opinion, you shouldn't stop using birth control pill, but see and done.

If you suffer with another yeast infection after treating this, you can discuss regarding birth control method with your follow-up doctor.

No, there isn't any food that can aggravate yeast infection.
