What Causes Withdrawal Bleeding After Taking Levonorgestrel?
Question: Hi doctor,
I had a coitus with my fiance pre ovulation on 2nd and 3rd october while her last menses ended on 30. We used the condom as protection but to be on a safer side i gave her a levenogestral tablet on 4th october. Now she bleed on 6th october with pain. And the pain is still not going, I am concerned about it.
Another question is will she have her periods again on time??

Brief Answer:
Will get periods on time
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
There is nothing to worry as it was just a small withdrawal bleeding because of levonorgestrel and nothing active needs to be done.
She will most likely get her periods on time but in case she gets a little irregular then also nothing to worry and there is no risk of pregnancy.

Thank you Doctor,
But why is it still a constant pain in her abdomen even after 8 days after taking the pill while walking and doing normal activities, she also feels tiredness. She also felt a bit feverish.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
All are side effects of levonorgestrel which has high dose of progesterone and progesterone is a very thermogenic drug so causes rise of body temperature.
Plus due to sudden exposure to such a high dose there occurs changes in endometrial lining of the uterus which causes congestion of blood vessels around uterus thus causing pain.
So don't worry and give her some simple painkiller and ask her to relax.
All the best and avoid this casual intake of emergency pill and rather restrict its use to emergency situations only.
