What Causes Yellow And Red Bumps In Tongue?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: My tongue is yellow. The back is extremely yellow and some red bumps. My throat is pretty red and doesn't feel normal. The roof of my mouth is also yellow and the doctor said he saw a white spot in the back of my throat. The tongue turned yellow about a month ago and is not completely better yet. The front of the tongue got a little better but the back is not getting better. My doctor put me on yeast medicine for 2 weeks thinking it was thrush that wasn't healing. It has not helped any. (I brush, floss and mouthwash 3 times a day) No at home remedies is helping either and I'm worried something is wrong.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
The pictures show a coated tongue.
Please mention any medical history of yours and any history of substance abuse. This is to rule out any reason for immune compromised status.
Please use clotrimazole lotion for local application thrice daily along with regular use of hexidine mouth wash.
If there is some history of immune compromised status, you may need oral anti fungal drugs.
Also if there is any associated gastrointestinal disturbance, please try correcting it.
Please use a probiotic preparation regularly and take high fibre diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables.
Also get any dental problem corrected.
Feel free to ask another query.
Regards

Put the clotrimazole lotion on my tongue? I do not have any medical history and I have never took drugs or smoked. I have a healthy diet and have no dental issues. What do you suggest for the throat? I have white spots and seems red and not normal. (The only other health issue I have had is a yeast infection back in January.)

Yes, clotimazole lotion comes in the form of mouth paint and can be applied with finger over tongue and with a swab in the throat. You are not to take anything orally for an hour after that. There is no harm in its going down the throat.
White/red spot can fungal infection over a pinkish red lymphoid follicle on the posterior pharyngeal wall (PPW). Lymphoid follicles are normally present on the posterior pharyngeal wall. Your throat photograph is not clear. The other reason for whitish areas over PPW is bacterial infection but there are no symptoms of that in your history.
Gargling with hexidine and then applying mouth paint should do the job for you as you have ruled out immune compromised status in your history.
