What Causes Yellow Jelly-like Clumps In Semen?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Nov 2015
Question: Dear Doctor,

I recently noticed that my sperm has yellow jelly like globs in it that is making me worried. I have attached two pictures in this inquiry. The first one is my sperm roght after ejaculation and the second is when around 15 minutes have passed.

I have recently got tested for gonnorhea and chlymydia which were negative (3 days ago) and also got a urinalysis which they did NOT find a bacterial infection.

Does my sperm look normal to you? What could be the cause, and why is there yellow jelly like globs that solidify after a few minutes?

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
It is due to infectiono f either Seminal Vesicle or Prostate .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have noticed your sperm to have clumps or jelly like clusters .

This is mostly due clumping together of sperms (Agglutination) of sperms secondary to infection of either Seminal Vesicle or Prostate .

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Semen culture .

In the mean while take antibiotics like Doxycycline along with anti inflammatory medicine like Diclofenac twice daily .

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Dear doctor,

Thanks for the answer. So you are pretty sure that this is probably caused by infection of prostate, is that correct?
Can it be caused by any STD's although I tested negative for them?
Furthermore, I will attach another picture of the sperm 1 hour after ejaculation, if it will provide any further diagnosis. I will try to see a urologist.

Thanks doctor

Dear Doctor,

My urine culture and urinalysis came back negative. Do you have any idea of what this might be? Could it just be a normal variation in my sperm?

Thanks doc

Brief Answer:
Urine culture can be normal in Prostatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .
Normal urine culture does not rule out Prostatitis .

You need to do semen culture and culture of urethral discharge after prostatic massage which are more specific test to confirm Prostatitis.

Agglutination of sperm can not be considered to be a normal variation .

Thanks and Regards.

Ok thank you doctor,

Right now I cannot get an appointment with a urologist until a few days. However, I do have a 7 day course of Norfloxacin in my cabinet, should I be taking these in the meanwhile?(will it mess up the results when I see my doctor? Furthermore, I am on Zoloft (SSRI), could this affect my sperm?)

Brief Answer:
You can take Norfloxacin .

Detailed Answer:
Hwllo
Thanks for follow up .You can take Norfloxacin .for a week.It is difficult to predict whether it will mess up with results or not .If the organisms are sensitive to Norfloxacin it may reveal semen cuture to be sterile .
..
Zoloft will not affect sperms .

Thanks and regards.
