What Causes Yellowing On The Tip Of Fingernails?
Question: I am wondering: The tips of my fingernails often and very yellow. I have a feeling this is a symptom of an internal problem but don't have an answer. Do you have any ideas about this. Some days they are 'normal' looking (white) but other days they are noticeably yellow.

Brief Answer:
Thyroid, lung and diabetes possible causes
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX. I have been through question and understand your concern.
Yellow fingernails is not uncommon at your age, and most of the time there is no serious condition underlying.
BUT, since you are concerned to better understand and rule out any serious disease, there are some conditions which may present with discolouration of the fingernails.
Diabetes, thyroid problems and respiratory insufficiency with a long disease can cause series this condition.
So, to be sure, I recommend a blood test (included arterial blood gas test).
Hope this helps.
