What Causes Yellowish Discoloration Of Skin Around Injection Site Of Lovenox On Navel Area?
I was discharged from hospital on August 7 after being diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolisms - one in each lung. I had been in hospital since August 1. The doctor put me on Lovenox 100mg injections for three weeks. Yesterday I started treatment at a local Thrombosis Clinic in Ottawa (Canada) and their doctor wants me to continue this as well as Warfarin. Today I noticed that the injection sites around my naval area are turning yellow - nowhere else, just the injection sites....cause for concern??
Hi I would recommend the following-
Detailed Answer:
Hi, I did review your concern.
Lovenox can cause local injection site problems like irritation and erythema and rarely hematomas.
I would recommend you to consult your doctor and show the lesions to him
Apparantly there is not much to worry about, but since you have been lately on warfarin too, it might increase the chances of bleeding. However, we have not seen in yellow discolourations around heparin injection sites in any of the patients we see. some patients do get a reddish lesion due to reaction to heparin injections and bluish discolouration with swelling due to local bleeding.
A repeat PT with INR and APTT would also help to see the latest coagulation profile on both these medications.
So all in all nothing to worry about, but do visit your doctor to show the lesions and see if they are of any concern (erythema-reaction, bluish/swollen-hematoma)
I hope this helps.
let me know if you have any questions or concerns sir.
Wish you all the best

I also emailed my GP and he says that some local yellowing is normal.
Thanks again.

Hello Mr XXXX,
yes some local swelling is normal, but anytime you experience redness, itchyness, bluish or reddish discolouration do consult your doctor. Also be regular with PT/INR and APTT monitoring to keep the levels in the desired range.
wish you all the best sir.
Let me know if you have any questions or concern.
