What Causes Yellowish White Buildup Under Eyebrows?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: Hi. I have a severe anxiety disorder which only adds to my horrific fears if this but i have been noticing yellowish white buildup under my eyebrows and when i try to get rid of it or use a facial scrub i notice less eyebrows closest to my nose. On one side there is actually a red bump that when i scratch a hair seems to come out. I just had a full thyroid blood workup since that runs in my family but im ok. I take biotin daily. Im terrified and beyond stressed that i cant sleep at night because i am worried i will lose my eyebrows. Is there anything i should be worried about or doing? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Mild "Seborrheic dermatitis": do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again and thanks for posting your picture.

After reviewing the picture with diligence I can make the diagnosis of "Seborrheic dermatitis".

Let me explain you the complete situation- Our human skin is a multilayered structure and it has tendency to wear and tear repeatedly on exposure to environmental factors.

In certain situation when the exposure of the environmental factor is too high then the skin has the tendency to get red and itchy. The hair roots and attached oil glands are bit more sensitive to get mild to moderately inflamed. These red areas appear as mild to moderate eruptions or flaking or scaling on hairy areas giving the appearance of Seborrheic dermatitis. It can be present on eyebrows and of higher then on scalp too.

In yourself it is quite mild enough and I reassure you fully that this would never going to affect your eyebrows permanently. SO lose all your fears related to loss of eyebrows and just relax yourself.

I would like to suggest you some of remedies:

- SUN PROTECTION: It is the important part for reducing the condition.

- A LOT OF VITAMIN A and LYCOPENE IN DIET: Vitamin A plays a very important role in improving skin strength. It along with certain antioxidants in our diet of fruits helps us best in reducing the damage of sun light. So I suggest you to have lot vitamin A and lycopene in diet. You should eat all fruits as well papaya, tomatoes and beat root containing these things in plenty.

You can continue the antioxidant capsule as it is very good source of all the above nutrients. But follow a good diet as the main part.

- Wash your scalp every alternate day to keep it clean.

Some times if the flaking is very much visible then I suggest my patients to apply a plane antifungal cream such as "Ketocaonazole" (Nizral) at night time for few days in a very thin layer so that it should not be visible to the naked eye.

Your tendency will decrease slowly and might take multiple of months to get better form internally, so have patience as well best of measure as suggested above.

I hope these informations will help you. I will be glad to answer any further of your queries.

Thanks. Should i go to the dermatologist in person for this? It doesnt get red or visibly flaky or itchy. By red bump i meant its almost like a little scab. Its when i scratch the area that i can cause flaking .
