What Could I Do About Excessive Vomiting After Breastfeeding My Infant Girl?
Brief Answer:
Continue breast feeding but hold off one feed. Avoid formula feeds.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
A breastfed infant is unlikely to suffer from a gastrointestinal infection. I would insist you to hold off one feed and give the next feed only after the child demands feed. Observe the activity level of the child. If the child seems active, there is no cause for concern. However, if the child seems lethargic, be sure to take the child to a pediatrician without delay.
It is unlikely that the vomiting is due to catching cold. Usually a child of this age does not suffer from fever. A low temperature in case of an infection is rather a more common finding.
Feel free to write back.
Regards

thank you again. is it possible that she is not calm after breastfeeding? she seems to move a lot and doesn' t sleep well. May it be beacuse of my milk?
Brief Answer:
Proper burping is possibly lacking.
Detailed Answer:
It seems that the vomiting and restlessless is due to inadequate or improper burping. You should burp the baby for at least 15-20 mins after each feed. All you need to do is to hold the baby head end elevated for this duration. The extra air taken causes distention and may cause discomfort and even vomiting. Proper burping will ensure its escape and the milk will not regurgitate back from the stomach to the food pipe, thus providing relief.
