What Could Be Causing Blood In Sputum?

Question: I have blood when i spit out
Brief Answer:
Get done chest x ray.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
I can understand your concern.
You are having hemoptysis (blood in sputum).
So we should first rule out lung-related diseases.
So get done chest x-ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Please let me know
1. Is this the first time or you had similar symptom before as well?
2. Do you smoke?
Please reply me answers to above-asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health.
Thanks.

x ray was done today , all clear.
i have had this last year. came from my nose.
I did have sinus infection at that time.
I have never smoked. Last year, I had external bleeding.
Went to the ENT who says it was caused by the dry weather.
This year I have more bleeding, may be because i am on Plavix medication.
What is your advice? Thanks.
Forgot to mention, I am on Plavix and Corex. Also, since I can't swallow pills whole, i crushed them and then swallow them. Is this contributing to the problem?

Brief Answer:
Stop Plavix for 2-3 days.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your follow up question.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you are right. More bleeding this time is mostly due to Plavix (blood thinner).
So stop Plavix for 2-3 days.
Also, consult ENT doctor and pulmonologist to search for the cause of blood in spit.
You are may need CT thorax and PNS (Para nasal sinuses).
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
