What Could Be Causing Enlarged Prostate, Urinary Issues And A Sudden Onset Of Constipation?

My PSA is 6.0. Would a biopsy be recommended for prostate cancer? My doctor wants to do a colonoscopy soon to see what is going on in my bowels. I had
a biopsy done 3 years ago when my PSA was about the same(6.1)
In my question, I forgot to mention that no prostate cancer was found. They thought
I had BPH. But I don't think they ruled out prostataitis. Based on the information I have given in all 3 questions, what might be the next step to take?
Colonoscopy biopsy of prostate and urine test.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Tamsulosin can be a cause of sudden onset severe constipation in your case. You should add a laxative like lactulose 10 ml once daily to your regimen as long term constipation may cause side effects like hemorrhoids fissures etc.
As per protocol if a person has a PSA level above 4.0 ng/ml biopsy would be recommended to determine whether prostate cancer is present or not.As it has already been three years a repeat biopsy should be done.
Every person above 50 should go for colonoscopy every 5 years. So as you are 60 a colonoscopy should be done once.
To rule out prostatitis just go for a test called urine routine and microscopy.Presence of bacteria in urine could suggest prostatitis.
To sum up-
Test siggested are
Urine routine microscopy
colonoscopy
Biopsy of prostate.
Thanks and feel free to follow up.

Is it possible my enlarged prostate is putting pressure on the bowels and causing
the constipation? Or that I have prostate cancer and a tumor in either the bowel
or my prostate that is causing the constipation?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
No my dear patient prostate has anatomically no relation with your intestines. So prostate being a cause of constipation is not a chance.
Prostate cancer has no relation to constipation.
Blood in stool, change in bowel habits are among the earliest indicator of colon cancer.
However as suggested earlier a clear answer to these queries require two tests
Prostate biopsy
Colonoscopy
Basic problem with problems related to gut is that almost every pathology presents with same set of symptoms therefore investigations are very important to rule out various pathologies.
For eg BPH and prostrate cancer have almost the same symptoms so clinically to differenciate between both is very difficult.
Hope i was helpful
