What Could Be Causing Sudden Sharp Stabbing Pain In My Big Toe And The Ball Of My Foot For The Past Two Nights?
Question: I suddenly over the last two nights have been awakened by sharp stabbing pain in my big toe and the ball of my foot. It will quickly subside and then just as quickly come back. I've never experienced anything like that before. I have a history of some arthritis in my shoulder and left elbow And is apparent in a spinal MRI. However that pain is totally different.

Gout happens when there are increased uric acid levels in the blood and the uric acid crystals start depositing in the joint capsules causing the joint inflammation.
It can happen due to decreased excretion of urates by kidney, dietary changes or due to genetic predisposition.
It is associated with consumption of alcohol, seafood and meat.
Taking a diet rich in vitamin C, dairy products and coffee is likely to help in improvement of symptoms.
Drink plenty of water daily to help the kidneys clear the uric acid.
