What Could Be Reason For Enlarged And Raised Bumps On The Arch In My Throat?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Jun 2024
Question: Hello! I had a fever for one night and both tonsils sore and tonsil stones a few weeks ago. It went away and the same exact thing happened again a few days ago, with a fever again. I feel better now but still have a little sore left tonsil. Also I have enlarged and raised bumps on the arch in my throat. As well as dry corners of my lips, which happened a few months back too. Worried it’s candida of the mouth? My right tonsil is enlarged because I had a absess on it about 10 years ago where it got very large and I never had it professionally drained, it popped itself.. so I believe it’s scar tissue. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
URTI - Upper Respiratory Tract Infection which is very common.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This is definitely not candida / oral thrush. Looks like a URTI - Upper Respiratory Tract Infection which is very common.

2. There is inflammation and redness of the throat, including the tonsils, throat, and uvula/ soft palate.

3. This will be the best time to get throat swabs for aerobic bacteria culture and viral PCR swabs done if possible. In addition, the blood counts will help understand the nature and type of infection.

4. Treatment should proceed with amoxicillin clavulanate 625 mg twice a day after meals x 5 days (unless you are allergic to this), an anti-allergy tablet such as bilastine/fexofenadine/cetirizinre once a day x 5 days. Anti-inflammation medicines such as paracetamol, a 3-day course of deflazacort 6mg once a day, and medicated gargles /oral rinse containing 0.15% benzydamine. Anti-acid reflux medication such as rabeprazole 20 mg once a day will help. The diet should be bland. Take adequate rest and hydration.

5. Review after 5 days with images to compare.

I hope that I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
