What Could Be The Cause Of Blood With Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
Question: I am a 48 year old female. I suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. This morning after suffering a flare, during my very last bowel movement of the morning I noticied bright red blood in the toilet. Blood seemed to be seperate from stool. I has a colonoscopy approximately three years ago when I was diagnosed with IBS. I was alos found to have an anal fissure though I do not feel any pain. Whta could cause bllod?
Brief Answer:
Very likely Hemorrhoid.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for query,
I am sorry to hear about your problem,
As blood was fresh in appearance therefore most common cause of this can be a bleeding hemorrhoid.
Usually a small test called proctoscopy is done by your GP to look for hemorrhoids(they are swollen veins).
I would suggest you to get a proctoscopy(2 minute thing) done by you GP.
Bleeding is also there in fissure but is mainly associated with pain also.
Once proctoscopy is done,Things would be much more clear.
Do you have constipation/take a low fibre diet?
Waiting.
Feel free to follow up.
Regards!

Thanks for the response. I do not have constipation, but I do have IBS with multiple bowel movements in the morning, sometimes diarrhea. Can IBS irritate hemroids?
Brief Answer:
Follow up.
Detailed Answer:
Hi thanks for follow up,
Definitely yes irritable bowel syndrome can cause hemorrhoids and can even increase the grade of hemorrhoids also.
I would suggest you to to go for a proctoscopy first.
Regards!
