What Could Cause A Black Eardrum, Bleeding From The Ear And Spitting Up Blood?
Question: I have a black eardrum and doctor said he has never seen this before. I want to know what can cause a black eardrum? I'm now spitting up some blood and is my ear bleeding causing the blood in my spitting up after coughing
Brief Answer:
Blood in the middle ear or damaged vessels of eardrum.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Black eardrum means damage of the blood vessels of the eardrum, or accumulation of blood in the middle ear area.
The damage in the eardrum or middle ear is caused usually from travelling in high altitudes (by plane, called barotrauma), by direct trauma (if you put something into your ear) or by strong coughing very rarely.
I hope I answered your question. If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor. Let me know if you need more clarifications.
Thank you.

I've had a bad sinus infection that has been a problem for the last month and a half. I've also had a lot of coughing. I also drive back and forth from Prescott AZ to XXXXXXX AZ a lot...either one could be the problem.
What is causing the pressure radiating from my ear, to jaw and down my back?
What is causing the pressure radiating from my ear, to jaw and down my back?
Brief Answer:
The pain is most probably caused by it.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The travelling have maybe caused it if those roads are in high altitudes, and the sinus infection has helped for it to happen.
The pain you feel it is most probably from it. It will need up to 6 weeks to heal by itself. If it doesn't heal then you need to see a local ear-nose-and throat specialist who can help you drain the blood behind the eardrum.
I hope this makes sense and answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.

Now I'm coughing up some blood and my throat is sore
Brief Answer:
If not better, then you should get examined and do further testing.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If you are not getting better you should see a local specialist of the ear-nose-throat problems who can examine you and see where is the blood coming from.
It may come from other sources as well, it is just that from your description it looks like it is coming from the middle ear. However, a physical exam will be able to tell it for sure.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thank you.
