What Could Cause A Left-sided Swollen Ankle After A Paralytic Stroke To The Left?
Question: I had a stroke that affected my left side. I noticed that my left ankle is swollen. It has been over a day since pt and am concerned. They checked my pulse said Iprobably need to elevate.
Brief Answer:
Elevating the leg may help.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Paralysis of one limb may impair blood circulation too, mainly the venous drainage.
It is true that elevation of the limb above the heart level results in improved blood circulation.
A Doppler ultrasound of the affected leg also is necessary to exclude any problems with arteriovenous system such arteritis, deep vein thrombosis etc.
Discuss with your doctor about these issues.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Take care.
