What Could Cause Balance Issues And Difficulty In Moving About In An 80-year-old Type-1 Diabetic?
Question: my wife is an 80 year old type one diabetic. Her latest physical shows no major problems but she is having problems with balance and and just general getting around. The balance problem is not all the time but she does have to have help getting dressed. this all started over a year ago when she had the flu and pneumonia and was hospitalized for 5 days and in re-hab for 19 days. She has not been the same since. She does not smoke or drink.
Brief Answer:
Consultation
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Diabetes can have several complications including loss of balance. It is good you picked up on this. What she needs is a thorough in-person neurological examination. I would schedule an appointment with a neurologist at your earliest convenience. Sometimes they can identify medication that might be helpful.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
