What Could Cause Black Outs For Large Portions Of The Day?

Posted on Fri, 2 Jun 2023
Question: I have recently been losing parts of my days. People are telling me things that I have done but I have no recollection of what they are telling me. Sometimes I will remember being where they say I was, but the time is out of proportion to what I remember. For example, I remember being in my office for a few minutes, but they tell me I was in there for 3 hours. What could cause this??

Brief Answer:
Dementia

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Based on your history and description, dementia is the likely cause. A mini mental state exam and psychiatric evaluation should be advised.

Complete blood, ESR, renal and liver function tests, serology for syphilis, vitamin B-12 levels, folate levels and thyroid function tests should be done to look for a possible organic cause and be corrected accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Wishing you the best of health.

Thank you.
