What Could Cause Consistently High Blood Sugar Levels Despite Taking Diamicron?
Question: My mom is 70. She is on diamicron but her fasting and random sugar is not going down even after no sugar.
Why is that?
She is diabetic, hypertensive, has eGFR 36.2 and Creatinine 1.3.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Diamicron is not working
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
How long she is been diabetic?
I would like to know her FBS, PPBS and her Hba1c levels?
It looks her Diamicron is not working.
She needs a combination treatment along with Diamicron.
What is her diet? Have you gone to a dietitian for a specific diet.

She has been diabetic for about 7 years.
Her FBS is fine. Her Hba1c is 7.1
Not yet but she is not eating any sugar and drinking lots of water and also controlling carbs.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
HbA1c is good for her age
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I think you are worrying much about her. Her HbA1c is good control for her age. You are putting onus on her. Since the FBS is fine why are you worried.
Please do not put too much she may land up more muscle damage if she does not take carbohydrates. If this is the numbers Diamicron should suffice. I would suggest to take nephrologist opinion on the lower eGFR.
Let her be what she is and let her control carbs as she is doing and not more.
This is my opinion and there are no good control studies that anything lower than this would reduce her mortality or morbidity.
