What Could Cause Severe Headaches After Injury To Face?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I fell in July, landing on my cheek bone on concrete. Basically face planted on my front door frame. My face bruised and was swollen for a couple weeks. I didn't see a doctor. It's now a few months later and I have a severe headache only on that side of my head. It hurts from under my eye to the top of my head. I'm not sure if it's related. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
Could be related

Detailed Answer:

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Delayed headaches or new neurologic symptoms after head trauma could indicate there was a minor injury to brain that passed unnoticed. One of these delayed conditions after head trauma could be Subdural Hematoma a serious but easily treated complication.

In my opinion you need an imaging study of your brain (CT scan or MRI) in order to verify or rule out this possibility. If there are no imaging findings, then your concern relates to common headache types found in general population and needs to be evaluated by a Neurologist.

Hope this answers your question.
