What Could Cause Severe Pain Around The Ribs Region?

Question: I had lobectomy six weeks ago and have bad pain in the ribs they cut through. I understand the nerve pain but the rib is so painful to the touch and the doctor said it is just the muscles but I can feel something moving around the rib and it is so painful. It just doesn't feel like a muscle. What else could it be?
