What Could Cause Slurred Speech While On Gabapentin And Tramadol For Shoulder Pain From Rotator Cuff Injury?
Question: I am 58 years old, I have taken gabapentin for over a year along with Tramadol 50mg. for shoulder pain. I have rotator cuff Injury in both shoulders which are very bad. I am having trouble walking, I don't write like I use to, I can't even read my own writing and am having trouble talking, I'm not clear and talk like I am drunk. This started maybe this past summer or so. Could this be a side effect of Gabapentin? I noticed that two possible side effects are unsteadiness and balance issues. Thanks. XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Probably adverse effects of both drugs.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have read your question and understand your concerns.
Cognitive dysfunction is a possible adverse effect of tramadol use, while gabapentin may cause balance and speech issues as possible adverse effects.
So, I think, these two drugs are probably simultaneously causing your issues.
Please discuss with your Doctor about these issues.
