Brief Answer:
Needs CT neck and ENT examination

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it needs to be evaluated as sometimes pharyngeal pouches may be present which are outpouching into muscosal lining of oropharynx and can cause impaction of food particles into it after meal and can lead to swelling. Other possibilities like thyroglossal cysts etc also needs to be worked up.

To start with, X-ray neck AP and lateral views may be done and ultrasound of the swelling will also be needed. CT can be more detailed though. Barium swallow can also be done to see the extent of swelling exactly and it's communication. ENT specialist review will be needed as well.

Meanwhile, no medications are needed but detailed evaluation should be done.

Wishing your husband a speedy recovery. Hope this has answered your query.
