Question: I am 75 years old and have been very active all my life(exercise etc) I started having weakness and pain in my legs about 12 days ago. I saw my family doctor and he pushed on my knees and didn't seem concerned. I know my body and feel something is wrong. Your opinion please. I don't know a good neurologist in this area

Brief Answer:
Spinal stenosis to consider.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Weakness and pain in legs may be caused by conditions such as spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis (slipped vertebrae), and a few others.

My opinion is that you should get evaluated further by neurological examination and by imaging studies of your lumbosacral spine such as dynamic x-rays and MRI, even to exclude these conditions because if left untreated or delayed treatment these conditions may lead to disability.

Hope you found the answer helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
