Sinusitis - congestion/pressure in nasal passages.
Dull headache, most profound when waking
Cold and tingly hands and feet
Sudden onset of achy knees - both of them
Fatigue. Comes and goes, but have taken "cat-naps" most afternoons for last week.
Doctor prescribed 14 day course of Amoxicllin-CLAV 875-125 four days ago. Knee pain came on 2 days ago.
53 year old, physically fit and active man with perfect bloodwork from regular annual physical 3 weeks ago.
The fatigue and complaints should resolve in a week or two
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The primary problem seems to be due to sinusitis. Sinusitis is an infection of sinuses, the air pockets contained in our skull. It is most often caused due to viral although occasionally there is a superadded bacterial infection present.
Antibiotics or any other medicines cannot reach the sinuses properly and sinuses have a poor blood supply. Antibiotics may relieve the superadded bacterial infections, but the unresolved underlying infection may flare up subsequently. Taking steam inhalation can provide relief as it helps in opening up the openings of the sinuses that have been blocked by thickened mucus. Water in form of vapor will reach deep inside and will help in dilute the thickened mucus.
Take rest and plenty of fluids to drink. You may take naproxen 500 mg tablet when required, in case you have pain. The fatigue and complaints should resolve in a week or two as the underlying problem resolves.
You need not worry. Hopefully, it would get well soon. You would need to seek additional medical help in case of any respiratory distress or increased wheezing.
Feel free to write back.
Regards

Possibly not concerning
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Possibly that is not concerning and would resolve as the underlying problem resolves. However, you could benefit from taking Methylcobalamin supplements 1500 mcg per day for at least a couple of weeks. Also make sure to drink plenty of fluids.
