Posted on Mon, 9 Dec 2024
Question: Hi, I have a white spot on the bottom side of my tongue near the top of my frenulum. I did have oral sex with a woman for the first time in a while two days ago and the frenulum under my tongue was somewhat sore, then I noticed this small white patch. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ophillips2012,
Thanks for the query. I have read it & understand your concern.
* Actually leucoplakia( white patches or spots) in mouth can be caused by chewing tobaco, smoking, alcohol .
Mostly these patches are non symptomatic and non harming & tend to disappear in 2-6 weeks time.
But they are also thought to be risk signal for carcinoma.
So it needs to be observed & if it does not disappear or increases- needs to be consulted for.
the causative habits should be abandoned completely.
* You have found it after oral sex... so needs to be observed carefully.. It can be inflammed & painful or burning/ itching,. In such case it can be due to sexually transmitted disease...& needs to be investigted & treated for.
In case of STD(sexually transmitted disease, there would be sign of inflammation( pain, swelling, fever) or itching with white exudate or Rash like minute skin folds.
* I would advise for a doctor's consultation to evaluate these & also go for investigation( like swab test, ) as per doctor's advise. Its important to exclude or find such infection & get it treated off, as the thing appeared with aex & the partner was new.
If the sex partner is accessible , to ask or get tested for infection is advised.
Self care..- to do regular gargles with betadin liquid drops in warm water to keep the part clean.
-To observe the patch
-To consult your family doctor for diagnosing possibility of STD & follow his advise
. - Be careful for use of condom, while having sex
I hope, that has answered your query. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
