What Course Of Action Can Be Taken For Parkinson's Disease When Diagnosed With Dystonia?
Question: My Dad is suffering from parkinson diseases from the last 10 yrs. He has dystonia. He is bending towards his right side. Lately he loses balance and has a fall. This causes problems as he injures himself. Can you suggest the right course of action? Any stick you suggest which we can give him that will prevent him from having a fall?

I have noted your father's symptoms, and he seems to be having motor fluctuations leading to dyskinesia/dystonia. At this stage, deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery is the best option. In this surgery, a small "pacemaker-like" device is implanted in the brain.
If it is not possible, then, we need to adjust the dose of his medications (however, it may not be of too much help).
Physiotherapy should be continued. Walking stick or a walker can definitely help in preventing falls.

what kind of walker stick would you suggest Doc? Can you send me link to the image of the stick? Usually people who have dystonia, is there any kind o special stick which is used?
