Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis is required to look for the presence of CLD or cirrhosis. Antiviral treatment needs to be administered if the HCV PCR is positive based on the genotype.

let me know if you have any query

Thanks

I understand your recommendation based upon information I provided. But help me out here plz. I've forwarded your response to my son to propound to the prison doc. I don't expect they'll do what you recommend due to federal prison health care protocol. However, based upon the # levels I've previously submitted, would you consider him in a 'potential' acute stage of liver disease including cirrhosis? There's no liability on your part providing me with the direct answer to the question I just ask as you know. But based upon your medical expertise, (again I ask), if my son were your primary patient, would you be suspect of acute liver damage, liver failure, possibly cirrhosis...needing immediate medical attention. And will you be specific in providing an answer to each of the variables I've asked? Specifically - acute liver damage, liver failure, cirrhosis? How immediate should testament be made available to my son based upon the blood profile #'s I've provided??

Hello again

The ALT is raised significantly. If there are clinical signs of liver failure including encephalopathy, deranged synthetic function then supportive treatment can be offered.

Cirrhosis can be determined with sufficient certainity via an ultrasound of the abdomen looking for a coarse echotexture of the liver.

Treatment should be offered immediately.
