What Do I Do About Conjunctivitis In Both My Eyes?
There are three major types of conjunctivitis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
There are basically three types of conjunctivitis, which is inflammation of the lining of your eye, which usually causes "pink eye" and irritation. They are bacterial, viral, and allergic. Allergic conjunctivitis is usually associated with itching and sneezing, while the main way to tell the difference between bacterial and viral conjunctivitis is by the amount of discharge: if you have thick discharge coming from the eyes that needs to be wiped away frequently (like every 20-30 minutes or so), that would be more likely bacterial, while if the discharge is like mucous and mostly only noticeable when first waking up, and especially if you have other symptoms such as nasal congestion, drainage, or cough, this would be more likely viral.
The treatment for bacterial conjunctivitis would be antibiotic drops, though usually it will clear on its own as well. The treatment for allergic conjunctivitis would be an antihistamine eye drop, and viral conjunctivitis does not need any treatment but you can use an antihistamine/decongestant eye drop for any irritation.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
