What Do SGOT Level Of 151 And SGPT Level Of 347 Indicate?
To do further testing
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
*what is your height and weight?
*were you recently ill (in the past month or so?), like a cold or anything else?
*did you take any medications?
*do you have any other medical issues?
*do you have any family history or liver disease or auto immune disease or jaundice?
*what does your scan report say?
*what other blood tests have you done? (complete blood count, liver function tests, lipid profile, blood glucose levels)
*do you take any herbal, ayurveda or other supplements? Or health tonics, pills? Even for weight loss or muscle gain?
*you have never consumed alcohol, right?
Your liver enzymes are moderately elevated and indicate damage to the liver. This could be due to a recent viral illness or medications, fatty liver disease etc.
I'd recommend:
-a gastroenterologist opinion
-a CT scan of the abdomen
-an MRCP (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography) to check for any bile duct obstruction, if clinically indicated.
-blood tests (complete liver function tests, complete blood count, amylase and lipase levels, kidney function tests, prothrombin time, viral hepatitis markers, Thyroid function tests, lipid profile )
-stool and urine analysis.
If your CT is normal, and there is no clinical reason to suspect any obstruction, I would suggest that you wait and repeat the test in 3 days and again in 4 weeks to see the trend in levels.
Stop all medications (after consulting your doctor) including supplements and the occasional paracetamol (if you take it).
If the levels continue to rise, further testing may be required, including, possibly a biopsy of the liver.
The important this is to first find out if there is anything to worry about. So please see a specialist and consider my recommendations.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
