Brief Answer:
Take pregnancy test, ultrasound if negative after a week

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

If your periods are usually regular, take a home pregnancy test.
If it is negative, please wait for one more week and take another pregnancy test.

If positive, then you are pregnant and will need to see your OBGYN for further care.
Do not self medicate or delay care

If that too is negative, I recommend an ultrasound of the pelvis to rule out functional ovarian cysts.

These can cause irregular periods and usually resolve themselves in 2-3 menstrual cycles.
Occasionally, they may need treatment if it persists or become large.

Excess stress, travel, illness, sudden weight changes, major lifestyle changes, thyroid hormone imbalances can also delay cycles.

Please consider my recommendations.
Hope this helps.
I would be happy to help you if you have any further questions.

Wish you good health

Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad

Brief Answer:
Take another test in a week if no period

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.

The cause of the heavy bleed may be causing the delayed period, not the heavy bleed in itself. Or it may have no connection.
Please consider my advice in earlier reply.

Hope I've been of help.
I would be happy to help if you have further questions.
Wish you good health.

Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
