Question: My husband, XXXXXXX has had fever for 3 days of about 100-101+ and has flu like symptoms--runny nose, coughing, achey muscles and aches in his elbow where he has had bursitis and pain in his knee and in his foot where he has had gout-- in other works lots of inflammation. He is listless and in pain and exhausted. He has recently returned from the XXXXXXX jungle where he works and was in a Malaria area for about 10 days two weeks ago.

With him recently returning from a malaria endemic area, a malaria blood test should be done. This is a rapid test. If the test is negative, he should be treated for upper respiratory tract infection with tylenol: 1000mg every 8hours for fevers and aches. He should get rest and also drink much fluids in the interim. Healthy diet is highly recommended.
If malaria test is positive, he should be treated according to the hospital guidelines.
