What Do Intense Abdominal Cramps During The Night Indicate?

Question: About 5 times in the last 3 weeks I have woken up in the middle of the night with intense upper abdomen cramps. Maybe a 6 out of 10 pain level. At that time, I may be somewhat nauseous and feel like I may vomit but never have. Twice I have had the chills with it. The cramps ease up within about 15 minutes but remain with a pain level of about 2 for quite a few hours later. Then it all goes away. It has always been when I have been asleep for at least 2 hours. I do not have diarrhea but do have gas and about 2 bowel movements a day.

Hi
Pain in the upper abdomen could be due to Acute Gastritis.
It could be due to stress,pain killer medicines,irritant foods etc.
I prescribe Proton pump inhibitor like Tablet RABEPRAZOLE 20mg twice daily along with Tablet Levosulpiride to my patients with similar complaints.
Avoid fast foods, spicy food etc.
If the symptoms doesn't come down even after above medical treatment, I will ask for an Upper GI endoscopy and Ultrasound abdomen.
Nothing to worry. It will come down.
