Question: My wife had a normal delivery on Nov 7, the bleeding post the delivery has not stopped. she is still using the pad and has bloody discharge of about 3 to 4 tablespoons. The discharge is not continuous and happens irregularly. Sometimes skipping days. The color of the discharge is like a normal period. is this normal? or should she see a doctor? How long does the discharge last?

Brief Answer:
Normal phenomenon

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
i have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Irregular bleeding and spotting is common upto 2 months after delivery.
This is due to the contraction of the uterus to the original size which occurs after delivery to upto 42 days mostly.
If the bleeding is not very heavy, and there is no foul smell or abnormal pain in the lower abdomen, then it is normal.
However, if the bleeding continues after 2 months, then an ultrasound should be done to confirm whether any blood clots or retained products of conception are left inside the uterus.
There is nothing to worry as of now.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
