What Do Loose Stools In An Infant Indicate?
My daughter is 20 days old, she normaly passes motions after or during every feed that is in gap of 2 -3 hrs... since yesterday she has been passing liquid in stools. Mostly whenever she passes motions it is with a spurt.
Same thing had happend when she was 3 days old and the doc had suggested lactic acid bacillus powder.
Please suggest should we give her lactic acid bacillus powder diluted in water?
Is this a sign of worry? Do we need to see a paediatrician?
Not to be worried

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
It is normal for babies to pass motions after/during every breast feed. It is because breast milk is fluid and is easily digested. Whenever the baby starts eating solid food, her stools will also become less frequent and solid.
Babies pass stools with a spurt, that is no issue.
It is not a sign of worry.
Lactic acid bacillus powder is meant to normalise intestinal flora, it can be given and is safe. But it does not seem to be necessary. Baby will derive her flora and immunity from her mother's milk. To take extra precautions, mother can take hygienic healthy food and cleaner drinking water.
I feel there is no need to see pediatrician. The symptom of liquid stools can be safely ignored. If there is any other symptom like fever, pain abdomen etc, then you may see a pediatrician.
Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,
Thank you for query.
It is common in babies, don't worry.
Burp your baby after feeding at least for 5 -10mins.
This will solve all the issues.
