What Do My MRI Scan Reports Indicate?

Posted on Wed, 12 Apr 2017
Question: I had a thalamic stroke secondary to a clot formed by untreated atrial fibrillation, resulting in right sided weakness 3 years ago. However, I was walking well and didn't have many residual symptoms for about 5 months. Then I began to have difficulties, so was using a walker for balance and safety. A second MRI showed no changes from the original MRI taken soon after the initial stroke. However, no other symptoms until about 4 months ago, when I began to have fogginess in thinking, extreme fatigue, poor balance, & nausea so that I could not do my routine PT exercises and must lie down in order to reduce the symptoms. I also began to have progressive neuropathy of right extremities. Neurologists could not explain. Audiology exam was negative. I continue to have periodic a-fib, and take Tikosyn bid, plus eliquis. I have a Pacemaker. The ultrasound results are O.K. and my cardiologist doesn't think a cardiac condition is related to symptoms. Could my symptoms be related to vagus nerve issues....pituitary? Test of adrenal gland (cortisol production) was normal. I have type II Diabetes, under control. Medications other than those named: Metformin bid, thyroid 50 mcg. qd, Diltiazem 60 mg. bid.

Brief Answer:
Get investigated as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
Thalamic involvement may lead to sensory involvement and thalamic pain syndrome too.
The extreme fatigue, memory impaired and fogginess needs to be evaluated.
You should get vitamin B 12, thyroid profile abd iron profile.
Rest medications to continue.
Review with reports.
Not likely due to pituitary issues or vagus nerve involvement.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
