What Do My Cholesterol Levels Indicate?

I tested my cholesterol today morning (with fasting).
Values are shown below.
Total cholesterol - 146
Triglycerides - 42
HDL - 94
LDL - 17
VLDL - 87
Apart from the total cholesterol none of the values are not in range.
Bad cholesterol value is very low and good cholesterol value is very high. Not sure but this look okey for me. Is it right Doctor?
But I am little bit worried to see the high VLDL, that points to any problems?
Could you please help me to analyze this report, and also please provide your suggestions according to this values?
Thanks in advance Doctor,
XXXX
I think you are in good health!
Detailed Answer:
Hi! thanks for writing to us and I must say that you are in positive health or good health; there is nothing to worry about this report ...!
Yes, you are correct; your HDL is high but it is good; your other lipids are low and you need retesting and taking some more fat in your daily diets as fats are necessary for liver, brain, nerve functions and fat-soluble vitamins.
(FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE SAKE ONLY:) Because VLDL contains a high level of triglyceride, having a high VLDL level means you may have an increased risk of coronary artery disease, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke in future.
However, you need follow-up test for confirmation...There's no simple, direct way to measure VLDL cholesterol. VLDL cholesterol is usually estimated as a percentage of your triglyceride value!
Overall, you need not worry at this age but add some good oils in your daily foods..
Here I enlist the goal values of different lipids for your age:
1. total cholesterol: 100-199 mg/dL for those over age 21
2. HDL Greater than 40 mg/dL ; yours is very good!
3. LDL Less than 130 mg/dL
4. Triglycerides Less than 150 mg/dl
5. VLDL 2-30 mg/dl this is the most variable and reflects your last meal!
