What Do My Cholesterol Test Results Indicate?
Question: Yes, I would like to get a second opinion on a recent test I had done. I just had my cholesterol done in October and the readings were as follows:
Cholesterol 5.73
LDL Cholesterol 3.49
HDL Cholesterol 1.81
Chol/HDL (Risk Ratio 3.17
Non HDL Cholesterol 3.92
When I had an ultrasound done previously it showed that I had moderate fatty liver infiltration, which I am now trying to correct with a healthy diet.
My doctor did not put me on any cholesterol lowering medication, and am wondering if there is a reason for that, whether it is just not that high, or just what the reason is.
I would appreciate your comments on this. Thankyou. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Cholesterol tests
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
Your blood tests make no sense. Cholesterol levels are not 5.73. The usual result is between 100 and 300. The 5.73 make no sense. also you LDL make no sense Anything greater than 100 is deemed high.
I would recommend that you take an image of your lab results and attach them to this inquiry. Once I have the true numbers I can better counsel you on treatment
Look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi, I have provided some attachments. Please review them.
Brief Answer:
Hypercholesterolemia
Detailed Answer:
First of all I must apologize for my initial answer. Your lab uses a different method in measuring Lipids than I am experienced with. But with the numbers it looks like your cholesterol is only marginally high and not clinically high enough to warrant treatment. The risk of treatment, liver damage, muscle pain or allergic reaction, is not worth the limited amount of benefit you would get from treatment. Since you are already at low risk I would not recommend treatment.
What looks good here is no sign of diabetes and a good level of HDL which is the good protective cholesterol.
With proper diet and exercise your fatty infiltration of the liver will improve.
I hope I was able to answered your question.
